Those who study in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design conduct self-directed research and creative exploration under the guidance of nationally and internationally recognized faculty members, visiting artists, scholars, and professional mentors. With an exceptional student to faculty ratio, the program is a close-knit community of artists and scholars positioned alongside all the resources provided by a Big Ten setting.
Supplementing the classroom and studio experience, students are encouraged to attend activities sponsored by the Department of Art, Art History, and Design ranging from visiting artist and scholar lecture series to Graduate, Undergraduate, and Faculty exhibitions to twenty-four hour drawing marathons. Many students also join clubs sponsored by the department. Internships, teaching exposure, and study abroad programs provide extended opportunities for a personalized education that leads to personal, artistic, and professional growth.
