An exhibition that explores the possibilities of an additive or subtractive action.
January 22 – February 21, 2016
Opening Reception January, 22, 2016
The artwork in Alter + Combine represents a wide range of media that explores the open-ended possibilities associated with an additive or subtractive action. By juxtaposing fragments of images, objects, ideas, and forms this exhibition features work that could be described as collage, assemblage, or any form of abstraction. This exhibition is the result of a national call for work and includes artists from 19 US States.
Artists featured in Alter + Combine are linked through the act of transformation. Ideas and forms have been disassembled and rearranged to produce a broad range of aesthetic and conceptual solutions. The artists in this exhibition seek out the boundaries between a fictitious narrative and history, memory and perceived experience, and abstraction and realism to form intrinsic results. Repetition searches for clarity, as layered compositions hide forms to reveal recurring motifs. Converging, These works produce an ongoing exchange, inviting the viewer to discover connections, produced by vicinity.
