As It Ticks Forward, We Look Back

April 12, 2021

The Department of Art, Art History, and Design at Michigan State University is pleased to announce As It Ticks Forward, We Look Back, a virtual solo exhibition by Bachelor of Fine Arts degree candidate Katie Shotwell.

Shotwell’s exhibition features three series of paintings that focus on the passage of time, memory and isolation. This is explored through texture, fluidity, and color of watercolor, acrylic, and water-based oil paints. In As It Ticks Forward, We Look Back the viewer follows a single character over each series of paintings that explores the different aspects of their life. Shotwell’s work seeks to explore how life can drastically change as time moves forwards and how these changes color the way that we view our past.

Shotwell’s work will be displayed in a virtual setting on the website

www.katielshotwell.com/as-it-ticks-forward-we-look-back starting April 12th, 2021.

The BFA solo exhibition is a major component of the BFA in Studio Art degree program. BFA candidates in the final year of study present their creative research to the public in a solo exhibition held in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design student galleries.
