MSU Union Art Gallery
March 18 – 30, 2024
Reception Monday, March 18 5:30-7pm
Luz Vazquez renders visible the experiences of Michigan State’s migrant farmworker community through photos and displays of items that offer a glimpse into the lives of the farmworkers and farmers feeding and leading America. Drawing from lived experiences and connecting with campus stories, the exhibition seeks to recognize where our food comes from while challenging notions of what migrant labor looks like. Through a poetic theme visualized through paper and vinyl butterflies, Vazquez parallels the migration of monarch butterflies and migrant farmworker labor from the fields to higher education.
Luz Vazquez is a third-year political science and first-generation migrant farmworker student at MSU. Las Alas Invisibles: The Unseen Wings is part of the César Chávez and Dolores Huerta Commemorative Celebration, Project 70/60 and times with National Farmworker Awareness Week.
