April 5 – April 8, 2021
Fragments of Being, a solo exhibition of BFA candidate Matias Brimmer’s paintings and pastels, will be hosted by the Department of Art, Art History, and Design at the Kresge Art Center at Michigan State University.
Focusing on the human form, Matias Brimmer explores the tensions which shape our experience as beings in a perpetual state of change and movement through time. The figures in these works exist in a state of flux, seemingly in the midst of materializing, or dissolving, before our eyes. Through the layering of frenzied gestural marks, delicate calligraphic lines, and fleshy masses of paint, Brimmer strives to capture the angst and alienation that is so deeply permeates the human condition.
Mr. Brimmer’s exhibition is a major component of the BFA in Studio Art degree program. BFA candidates in the final year of study present their creative research to the public in a solo exhibition held in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design student galleries.
