VIM Magazine to Host First In-Person Fashion Show After Pandemic Restrictions

After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, VIM Magazine, Michigan State University’s student-run fashion, beauty, and lifestyle publication, will hold its largest in-person Annual Fashion Show to date. The event will take place Wednesday, March 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Pasant Theatre of the Wharton Center for Performing Arts.

The VIM Annual Fashion Show was first developed to showcase handmade designs by motivated and talented Apparel and Textile Design (ATD) students of all class years. Current VIM Magazine Editors-in-Chief Bryn Feeley and Lilly Soble supervised this year’s production of the event alongside generous help from the Fashion Relations Team.

“The Fashion Relations Team is collaborating with Wharton to bring guests an interactive and compelling fashion show,” Soble said. “The team chose this location because of its beautiful theatres and strong connection to MSU students. We want to make this a show to remember.”

Inspired by Marie Antoinette, the 2006 film directed by Sofia Coppola, this year’s fashion show theme is titled Victorian Secret. All attendees are encouraged to dress the part of a royal in their favorite bejeweled, lace, or ruffled ensembles.

“The theme was introduced by our Assistant Business Director Margot Baer. We wanted to mix modern with avant-garde, gilded age, and renaissance influences,” said Shree Mysore, a Director of the Fashion Relations Team. “We believe due to the designers’ pieces not necessarily following the theme, the juxtaposition creates a chance to use the contrast to our advantage and spotlight their work even more.”

The itinerary of the event will include a seamless evening of fashion and social entertainment. Upon seating, the show will kick off with a video produced by the VIM Film Team that will introduce the 10 selected MSU students before their handmade garments appear on the runway with the help of volunteer student models.

“This fashion show differs from previous years as it will be a show with professional lighting and sound, allowing everyone the perfect view of all the work put into the event,” Feeley said. “It will also be a great opportunity to meet other MSU students with an interest in art and fashion.”

Admission tickets for the VIM Fashion Show are priced at $15 per person and are available to purchase both online through the Wharton Center for Performing Arts website and at the venue on the day of the event. Following MSU policies, the Wharton Center will not require the use of masks for attendees.

“I expect this event will appeal to individuals of all ages,” Soble said. “Attendees can expect to see an inspiring production that showcases MSU students’ fashion designs. It will be a production you don’t want to miss!”
