2023 Undergraduate Juried Exhibtion
Students enrolled in classes at Michigan State University in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design are invited to submit work from their studio art, graphic design, and apparel & textile design classes to the 2023 Undergraduate Exhibition held at (SCENE) Metrospace Gallery in East Lansing, MI.
All undergraduate students are invited to submit up to three works per area from Department of Art, Art History, and Design course work made during the academic terms beginning in the Summer of 2020 through the Spring 2022. Eligible submissions can range from course work in Apparel & Textile Design, Ceramics, Comics & Graphic Novels, Drawing, Electronic Art & Intermedia, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture.
What are the show dates?
The 2023 Undergraduate Juried Exhibition will be on view at (SCENE) Metrospace from Friday, March 31 to Friday, April 28. The Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony is slated for Friday, March 31 from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Awards will be announced at 7PM.
What/Where is (SCENE) Metrospace?
(SCENE) Metrospace was founded by the City of East Lansing in 2004, and continues to be operated by the Department of Art, Art History, and Design at Michigan State University. Located in downtown East Lansing, it was founded in 2004 as a response to the “Cool Cities” initiative set forth by former Governor Granholm. (SCENE) Metrospace has maintained a diverse range of visual art exhibitions, musical performances, and other forms of expression since it’s opening. In 2015 the City of East Lansing and Michigan State University joined forces to program and operate the space.
What is the submission deadline?
Work must be submitted no later than midnight on Friday, March 17.
Who is the guest juror?
Matthew Kolodziej is a Professor at the Myers School of Art, University of Akron, OH. In Kolodziej’s painting, the transitory quality of space and perception is a central theme. Kolodziej was the recipient of a Fulbright, a Pollock-Krasner Grant, and has been exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions.
How do I know if my work is accepted?
Artists will be notified if their work is accepted to the show on Wednesday, March 22 via e-mail.
What about installation/de-installation?
Work must be delivered in person to (SCENE) Metrospace on Saturday, March 25, Sunday, March 26, and Monday, March 27 12-5PM. Upon delivery of work, artists will be required to complete an exhibition contract with (SCENE) Metrospace that details the de-installation timeline. Artists identified to exhibit are responsible for the delivery and collection of their work within the stated timelines.
